North Carolina Gears Up for 2026 Primary Elections
North Carolina is preparing for its 2026 primary elections, which include an open U.S. Senate seat and various U.S. House contests.
Changes to the state's map have resulted from recent redistricting.
Former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper and former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley are positioned strongly in their respective U.S. Senate primary races. The state also features multiple contested U.S. House primaries.
A runoff election, scheduled for May 12, can be requested between the top two finishers if no candidate secures more than 30% of the vote in a contest. As of now, no results are available for the primaries.
