Bruhn Set for Geelong Return After Charges Dismissed

Geelong player Tanner Bruhn is scheduled to play his first AFL game in 17 months, following the dismissal of criminal charges against him. Bruhn will feature for the Cats in their season-opener against Gold Coast on Friday night.

Charges Dismissed

Bruhn was previously stood down by the AFL after being charged with rape and intentional sexual touching.

These charges were dropped in November when the complainant admitted to providing false information.

Coach Scott on Bruhn's Comeback

Geelong coach Chris Scott confirmed Bruhn's return, marking his first AFL game since the 2024 preliminary final.

"It's just fantastic for him to get out there and be able to concentrate on footy after what is one of the most egregious injustices I can think of in the game."

Scott added that putting the issue behind him is positive for everyone.

Bruhn's Player Details

Scott mentioned that the support offered to the 23-year-old Bruhn, who has played 66 AFL games since 2021, was largely a private matter. Bruhn transferred to Geelong at the end of the 2022 season. Scott also indicated that Bruhn was trialed at half-back during the pre-season, deviating from his usual midfield position.

Cats' Injury Update Ahead of Season Opener

Regarding other players, Scott confirmed that Jeremy Cameron and Bailey Smith are expected to play against the Suns, despite pre-season injuries. Forward/ruck Shannon Neale is also cleared to play after a shin injury. However, forward Gryan Miers remains in doubt following thumb surgery, with Scott emphasizing a cautious approach to player readiness.
