Newcastle Police Shoot Man During Arrest Operation

Arrest Operation Details
The operation began around 8:30 AM, with officers attempting to apprehend a man who had five outstanding warrants. The Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team was specifically involved in this arrest.
Upon entering the unit, officers encountered a man described by police as being armed with an edged weapon.
Confrontation Leads to Shooting
During the encounter, officers deployed two tasers, but these were reportedly ineffective. Police state the man continued to threaten officers with the weapon, leading one officer to shoot him. The man sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Suspect Hospitalized Under Police Guard
The 36-year-old man was transported to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition. He remains at the hospital under police guard.
