This digital release occurred nearly two weeks before its scheduled physical release date in mid-March. The album follows 'Passage du Desir,' which was released earlier in 2024.

Simpson had previously stated an intention to limit releases under his given name, leading to the adoption of the Johnny Blue Skies persona. 'Mutiny After Midnight' was promoted under the name Johnny Blue Skies & The Dark Clouds and was initially announced as a physical-only release for March 13 through Atlantic Outpost.
