Pentagon Chief Addresses U.S.-Israeli Actions Against Iran

On Monday, a Pentagon chief identified as Pete Hegseth made the first official remarks to reporters since U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran commenced on Saturday. Hegseth clarified the context of these actions, stating they were initiated in response to Iran's historical targeting of U.S. military assets and interests worldwide.

"We didn't start this war but under President Trump we're finishing it."

Escalation and Early Casualties

These military operations followed weeks of diplomatic efforts aimed at averting conflict. The conflict, along with Iran's subsequent retaliatory actions, has led to significant consequences. Iran's supreme leader and some senior leadership have been killed, and the conflict has drawn in other Middle Eastern nations. Tragically, four American service members have also died in Kuwait.

Stated Objectives and Future Outlook

Hegseth elaborated on the United States' objectives in Iran, which include neutralizing missile threats, dismantling the Iranian navy, and preventing nuclear weapon development. He explicitly rejected the concept of a prolonged conflict or engagement in nation-building efforts.

President Trump provided further insight into the timeline during an interview with The New York Times on Sunday. He stated that combat operations are expected to continue for "four to five weeks" if necessary, until all U.S. objectives are achieved. However, the President did not provide specific details regarding these objectives. Since the conflict's beginning, President Trump has released two prerecorded video messages.
