View source

Motorola has announced a partnership with GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused Android operating system, with plans to pre-install it on future devices. The long-term collaboration was revealed at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, where the company outlined intentions for a future smartphone to feature GrapheneOS pre-installed, alongside the integration of certain GrapheneOS features into other Motorola devices.

Enhancing Security Through Collaboration

According to a Motorola press release, the partnership with the GrapheneOS Foundation, identified as a nonprofit specializing in advanced mobile security and developers of a hardened Android Open Source Project-based operating system, aims to enhance smartphone security.

Both organizations will collaborate on future devices engineered for GrapheneOS compatibility and plan joint research, software enhancements, and new security capabilities in the coming months.

Future Device Compatibility and Specifications

Details regarding the specific GrapheneOS features to be adopted by Motorola are currently undisclosed. The device intended to ship with GrapheneOS pre-installed is a future release, and its exact model has not been specified.

GrapheneOS developers have previously stated that existing Motorola devices do not meet the software's hardware requirements. Presently, GrapheneOS is exclusively available on Google Pixel devices. The upcoming Motorola device featuring GrapheneOS is anticipated to have specifications exceeding even current flagship models like the Motorola Signature, as its existing hardware does not meet the necessary requirements for the privacy-centric OS.
