Bulldogs Secure Will Lewis as SSP Rookie

The Western Bulldogs have officially signed Footscray VFL forward Will Lewis as a pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) rookie. This strategic move, completed ahead of the March 2 deadline, successfully fills the club's final vacant list spot.

Player Profile and Recent Form

Lewis, 26, is a 194cm forward with a strong track record. He was a key member of the Dogs' VFL premiership team last season, where he played 19 games and accumulated an impressive 40 goals, including two in the Grand Final. Lewis has been training with the Bulldogs' program alongside other VFL-listed players during the pre-season, showcasing his commitment and potential.

Pre-Season Performance

During his initial stint with the Bulldogs, Lewis demonstrated his versatility on the field. He was selected to play against Sydney's AFL team in a match simulation, where he began as a defender before being moved forward, ultimately kicking two late goals.

A Familiar Path to the AFL

The Bulldogs have a well-established history of promoting talent from their VFL program through rookie decisions. This pathway has seen players like Anthony Scott, Ryan Gardner, Robbie McComb, and Caleb Poulter transition into the AFL team as recent pre-season or mid-season rookie selections. Lewis now follows in these footsteps, highlighting the club's successful development pipeline.

Filling a Vacant Spot

The opportunity for Lewis arose after James Harmes retired from the club, creating the vacant list spot on the Bulldogs' roster that Lewis now fills.
