Wild Acquire Defenseman Roman Schmidt from Flyers in Exchange for Boris Katchouk

The Minnesota Wild have announced a transaction, acquiring defenseman Roman Schmidt from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Boris Katchouk. Schmidt is slated to report to the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Roman Schmidt Joins Wild Organization

Schmidt, 23, is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defenseman. He has recorded one assist and 60 penalty minutes in 29 AHL games this season, playing for both the Syracuse Crunch and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

His career AHL totals include seven points (three goals, four assists) and 139 penalty minutes across 79 games over parts of three seasons. Schmidt was initially selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round (96th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.

Katchouk Heads to Philadelphia

Boris Katchouk contributed three points (one goal, two assists) in eight games with the Iowa Wild. He was acquired by Minnesota from the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 28, 2025, in exchange for forward Michael Milne.
