Xiaomi Unveils Vision Gran Turismo Concept Supercar at MWC 2026

Xiaomi unveiled a Vision Gran Turismo concept supercar at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. This marks Xiaomi as the first Chinese automaker to participate in the racing game’s concept car program during its 28-year history.

Concept Car Details

The electric supercar concept utilizes Xiaomi’s 900V Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform. Its design features a low-slung profile, scissor doors, a carbon fiber rear wing, and center-lock wheels housing carbon-ceramic brakes.

The Vision Gran Turismo program, created by Polyphony Digital in 2013, allows various automotive brands to design concept cars for the Gran Turismo racing game.

Xiaomi is the first Chinese brand to join this program, which has previously included brands like Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW.

The concept was observed in Barcelona prior to MWC and subsequently leaked online. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed the reveal on Weibo on February 28, with complete specifications released on March 1, preceding the official MWC unveiling on March 2.

Design and Technology

The Vision GT exhibits an extreme low-slung posture, indicative of a mid-engine or central-cockpit layout. Its aggressive, aerodynamically driven design incorporates multiple front air-channel intakes, a shark-fin roofline, T-shaped headlights, and an extensive rear diffuser with ducting. Xiaomi’s chief designer, Li Tianyuan, stated the design aimed for aerodynamic performance without additional bolt-on components.

The interior features a butterfly-shaped steering wheel, a panoramic display screen, and a "cocoon-shaped sofa" for the driver’s seat. The wheels bear "XIAOMI" branding and a blue finish, matching the concept's light blue body wrap.

Underneath, the Vision GT employs Xiaomi’s 900V SiC platform, developed with a significant portion of its $1.4 billion EV R&D budget. The center-lock wheels contain carbon-ceramic rotors, reportedly engineered for a powertrain generating approximately 1,900 hp, though final output figures have not been confirmed by Xiaomi. For comparison, Ferrari’s Vision Gran Turismo concept produces 1,337 hp.

Xiaomi's EV Strategy and Expansion

The Vision GT concept reflects Xiaomi’s increasing presence as an automaker. In 2025, the company delivered over 410,000 EVs, exceeding its 300,000-unit target. The target for 2026 is 550,000 deliveries.

The SU7 sedan has surpassed the Tesla Model 3 in sales in China. Xiaomi plans to introduce four new models this year, including two extended-range SUVs.

Less than a year prior, the SU7 Ultra, a 1,500+ hp flagship, achieved a Nürburgring production EV lap record of 7:04.957, making it the fastest production electric car.

The SU7 Ultra was also the first mass-produced Chinese vehicle to be featured in Gran Turismo 7.

Xiaomi confirmed that 2027 will mark its "first year of overseas expansion," with plans to enter the European market. An R&D center has been established in Munich, and the company reportedly targets 150 stores in the UK within four years. The unveiling of the Vision GT concept at MWC Barcelona, Europe’s largest tech conference, aligns with these expansion efforts.

The entry into the Vision Gran Turismo program contributes to Xiaomi’s reputation as an automotive contender. The company's selection of MWC Barcelona, rather than a Chinese auto show, for the reveal underscores its focus on the European market. Xiaomi’s track record includes producing 500,000 cars in 602 days from launch.
