Australia's Eleventh Entry in Eurovision Set for Vienna
The 70th annual Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria, with an expected global audience exceeding 160 million viewers. Delta Goodrem, a 41-year-old singer, will represent Australia, competing during the second half of the second semifinal on Thursday, May 14. This selection marks Australia's 11th participation in Eurovision since the country first joined the contest in 2015.
Selection Process and Goodrem's Statements
Australian broadcaster SBS selected Goodrem for the event.
Goodrem stated that she is honored to represent Australia and described music as a lifelong passion. She expressed appreciation for Eurovision's creativity, individuality, and its role in connecting people globally through music.
Regarding her song, "Eclipse," she described its theme as "alignment" and felt it was an appropriate moment for her to represent her country. Goodrem also cited Olivia Newton-John and Céline Dion, both past Eurovision participants, as influences, referring to Eurovision as a "natural love."
Speculation about Goodrem's participation in Eurovision had circulated for several years. She confirmed receiving a call from SBS months after indicating her willingness to participate "if the right moment happens." The opportunity became feasible in 2025, aligning with anniversary shows for her second album, "Mistaken Identity," following previous postponements due to other projects.
