Grace Jones' Sydney Opera House Performance
Grace Jones performed a 90-minute concert at the Sydney Opera House forecourt. The event coincided with the 48th annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and a Bad Bunny stadium show.
Performance Highlights
Jones concluded her show with "Slave to the Rhythm," hula-hooping for the duration of the song. Throughout the performance, she changed outfits for each track.
"I just wanna have some fun, honey. I wanna have more than fun."
During the show, Jones requested wine. After being brought a paper cup, she asked for a wine glass, which she then used. She sometimes continued singing parts of songs after the band had stopped playing. Her vocal performance during the night was highlighted.
Stage Actions and Setlist
Jones engaged in various stage antics, including performing sit-ups while on a gold throne and being carried on the shoulders of her security during "Pull Up to the Bumper." She removed fitted pants to reveal her legs and briefly exposed her breasts from beneath her corset.
The setlist included classics such as "Libertango" and "Love Is the Drug." Jones also performed a new track titled "The Key to Funky," from an upcoming record. She later performed "Amazing Grace," using a church-lady hat and tambourine, and followed it with "Williams' Blood," a song that references her family history. In "Williams' Blood," she sang about being "beyond salvation."
Observations
The performance was noted for its elaborate and sometimes "shambolic" nature. Instances were observed where Jones did not recall her setlist or some lyrics to songs she had performed for an extended period.
