Satellite Imagery Reveals Widespread Damage Across Iran and UAE Amid Regional Conflict

Satellite imagery has revealed damage at multiple sites in Iran, including the Supreme Leader's compound in Tehran and several military facilities. Damage was also observed at an industrial area in the United Arab Emirates. These observations follow reported military bombardments by the United States, Israel, and Iran over the weekend.

The events coincide with reports of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Damage in Tehran

High-definition satellite imagery from Airbus shows significant damage at Leadership House, the secure compound of Iran's Supreme Leader in Tehran. The central building appeared in ruins, with smoke visible. Surrounding gardens were flattened and covered in debris, and other structures within the compound sustained damage. An Israeli media outlet reported that dozens of bombs were deployed in the area, though the use of bunker-buster munitions remains unconfirmed.

A video filmed on Jomhuri Avenue in central Tehran depicted a large plume of smoke rising several blocks away, with an individual in the video indicating the leader's compound as a probable target. The compound, historically a central operational hub for the Islamic Republic, was reportedly vacated by Khamenei, who had moved to a secure underground bunker due to escalating tensions. An area northeast of the compound also showed damage.

US President Donald Trump stated that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in an assault by Israel and the United States, a claim corroborated by Iranian state media.

Damage to Iranian Military Facilities

Iranian military facilities were reportedly heavily targeted by the US and Israel.

Tabriz Missile Base

Imagery from Planet Labs showed the aftermath of strikes at the Tabriz missile base in Iran's north-west. This complex is reportedly Iran's second silo-housed missile base and was also reportedly targeted in June 2025 by the US and Israel. Military analysts believe the facility houses multiple types of medium-range ballistic missiles. Satellite data indicated collapsed tunnel entrances and flattened structures at the site.

Konarak Naval Base

Fresh imagery from Konarak, located on Iran's south-east coast in the Gulf of Oman, revealed extensive damage to multiple military facilities. Vantor satellite imagery displayed a warship on fire in the port, emitting a large pillar of black smoke, and showed the aftermath of an attack on several ships and the naval base. US President Donald Trump claimed nine Iranian naval ships were sunk in the conflict.

Konarak Drone Base

At a nearby drone base in Konarak, extensive debris was observed across a large area.

Konarak Air Base

Images of the Konarak air base showed damage to aircraft shelters.

Strike on United Arab Emirates

The aftermath of an Iranian strike on the United Arab Emirates was also captured. An image from March 1 depicted a large plume of thick black smoke emerging from an industrial area in Sharjah, north of Dubai. Verified ground footage confirmed the presence of a substantial fire.

Regional Context and Naval Presence

These observations follow military bombardments by the US, Israel, and Iran over the weekend. The presence of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and other US warships was recorded in the Arabian Sea as recently as February 25.

Mourning in Tehran

Following the reported death of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a strike on his Tehran compound, large crowds gathered at Enghelab Square in Tehran on Sunday, just north of Leadership House. Footage filmed by individuals in the crowd and verified by Reuters indicated a large gathering of mourners.
