Charles Oliveira Considers Featherweight Return While Prioritizing Lightweight Title Chase

Mixed martial arts star Charles Oliveira has indicated he is considering a return to the featherweight division (145 pounds). Charles Oliveira has indicated he is considering a return to the featherweight division (145 pounds) while maintaining his primary focus on the lightweight division (155 pounds).

Weighing Up a Return to 145 Pounds

During a recent fan Q&A session held in Brazil, Oliveira stated he has contemplated discussing a move back to 145 pounds with UFC management. He previously transitioned from the featherweight division to lightweight due to difficulties with weight management and failed weight cuts.

Despite these past challenges, Oliveira believes he could achieve the 145-pound weight limit again with three to four months of preparation. He noted that he typically weighs up to 185 pounds a month after competing at lightweight, illustrating the significant cut required.

Oliveira also mentioned that a move to welterweight (170 pounds) might be an easier option for him. This could potentially allow him to pursue a second UFC title in a different division. However, he expressed a preference for returning to featherweight. A potential fight against Conor McGregor at 145 pounds was specifically mentioned by Oliveira as a significant opportunity for his legacy.

Current Lightweight Focus and Championship Ambitions

Despite his considerations regarding other weight classes, Oliveira affirmed that his immediate and primary focus remains squarely on the lightweight division. His stated goal is to defeat Max Holloway at UFC 326.

Following this bout, he aims to challenge for the lightweight championship against the winner of the Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje match, or another contender in the division.
