A study at Stanford University in California, US, has demonstrated a technique capable of translating thoughts into real-time text using an artificial intelligence-powered brain interface. This advancement holds immense promise for individuals unable to speak clearly due to neurological conditions, enabling them to communicate through text.

A computer system, utilizing artificial intelligence, decoded signals produced by her neurons as she imagined speaking words. This system translated her internal monologue into text displayed on a screen.

One key participant, identified as T16, was a 52-year-old woman paralyzed by a stroke 19 years prior. She had an array of electrodes surgically implanted into a lobe at the front of her brain. The study also included three patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

This research represents a significant step towards developing advanced assistive communication technologies that can directly translate neural activity into speech or text.
