UFC White House Event Costs Projected to Exceed $60 Million
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event planned for June 14 at the White House is projected to cost upwards of $60 million, according to Mark Shapiro, president and chief operating officer of TKO Group Holdings, the UFC's parent company.
Shapiro confirmed these reports during a quarterly financial call. He indicated that the final cost could potentially increase beyond the $60 million estimate as the event approaches, noting that costs are not expected to decrease.
Financial Strategy and Sponsorships
TKO Group Holdings is absorbing all expenses associated with the event, which includes constructing an arena on the White House's South Lawn, fighter salaries, and other operational costs. The UFC aims to recover at least half of the total expenditure through sponsorships and endorsements. Several businesses are reportedly interested in participating in the event, which is set to coincide with the American 250 celebration.
Investment for Long-Term Growth
UFC CEO Dana White previously stated this event would be among the most expensive in company history, surpassing the over $20 million spent on UFC 306 at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Shapiro emphasized that the UFC does not expect to generate a direct profit from the White House event.
Instead, the company views it as a strategic investment for long-term benefits.
This investment is intended to generate earned media, attract new fans, and expand the audience and viewership for the UFC, particularly through platforms like Paramount+.
