Google Messages Details Page Enhanced with Edit History and Message Type Display

The Google Messages Details page has reinstated the edit history feature after an update to the Material 3 Expressive design.

Previously, the updated Details page displayed a message preview, status (Sent, Delivered, Read with timestamps), and sender information. This interface succeeded a prior dialog box design.

Edit History Returns and Improves

The Google Messages Details page has reinstated the edit history feature following an update to the Material 3 Expressive design. This feature was reintroduced after the updated Details page, which previously showed message previews, status (Sent, Delivered, Read with timestamps), and sender information, succeeded an older dialog box design.

The 'Edit History' section now clearly shows 'Original message' and 'Edited to' details. This marks a significant improvement, as prior to this update, users could only observe that a message had been edited within the main conversation thread without the ability to view the specific changes.

New 'Type' Display for Message Format

Google Messages now includes a 'Type' display, indicating the message format. This feature provides clear information, such as whether a message is an 'End-to-End Encrypted Rich Communication Service message' or a 'Text message.' For SMS messages specifically, 'Priority: Normal' is also shown. This contextual information further complements the lock icon already present in the main conversation thread, giving users a comprehensive understanding of their messages.

Rollout Information

Edit history is being rolled out with the latest stable version of Google Messages (version 20260206_00_RC00). The 'Type' display feature, however, is currently accessible through the beta channel.
