Spotify Introduces Smart Reorder for Smoother Playlist Transitions

Spotify is introducing a new feature for Premium users that allows for smoother transitions between tracks. This builds on the custom transition feature released in August of the previous year, which enabled users to create uninterrupted progressions within playlists and eliminate silences between songs.

The latest enhancement permits Premium users to reorder tracks based on their musical keys and beats per minute (BPM).

Activating Smart Reorder

Premium subscribers can easily utilize this new function. To begin, tap "Mix" on a playlist, then select "Edit." Scroll to find the "Smart Reorder" option. Tapping this automatically rearranges songs by key and BPM. Users must then select "Save" for the changes to apply.

Early Engagement and Popular Transitions

Since the introduction of custom transitions, Spotify reports significant user engagement, with users having streamed over 220 hours of mixed playlists. Popular examples of these seamless transitions include The Weeknd's "Wake Me Up" flowing into "After Hours," and Flo Rida's "Low" transitioning smoothly into Rihanna's "S&M."
