Daylesford Man Charged in Solo Hiker Aggravated Assault

A 51-year-old Daylesford man has been charged following an investigation into allegations of aggravated assault against a solo female hiker.

Sarah Gibbs, 30, reported that while hiking alone on the 215-kilometer track from Bendigo to Ballarat, a man allegedly stepped into her path and assaulted her.

Initially, police informed Ms. Gibbs that an investigation had concluded without detecting a criminal offense.

However, Victoria Police later arrested and charged a 51-year-old Daylesford man in connection with Ms. Gibbs's allegations.

The man faces charges of common law assault and aggravated assault. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on April 9.
