Cassandra Thorburn Announces Triple Negative Occult Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Cassandra Thorburn, 54, former wife of TV presenter Karl Stefanovic, has announced her diagnosis with triple negative occult breast cancer.

She shared the information on Wednesday, following a previous social media post where followers had noted a medical band-aid on her chest.

Thorburn stated that sharing her diagnosis was a way to control the narrative regarding her treatment and the timing of her announcement. She emphasized her decision to not conceal her diagnosis, particularly for her three adult children she shares with Stefanovic.

Understanding the Rare Diagnosis

Thorburn credited NSW Breast Screen for the early detection of her rare and aggressive form of cancer.

She highlighted that occult breast cancer involves the disease spreading to lymph nodes without a detectable primary tumor in the breast via imaging.

Advocacy and Support

Thorburn also acknowledged the support of the Toni 7 Guy’s Pink Scissors Program, an initiative that provides complimentary salon services for individuals experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment.

She concluded her announcement by urging women to prioritize and promptly schedule their breast screenings.
