Wadi Rum Desert: A Seasonal Transformation

The Wadi Rum desert in Jordan exhibits green vegetation following winter rains.

This area, known for its distinct rock formations, has served as a filming location for movies such as Star Wars and The Martian.

Typically, the desert landscape is sand-colored. However, after late winter rains, the ground becomes covered with various plants.

Emergence of Desert Flora

Vegetation observed includes spiky jointed anabis and small purple flowers, which are utilized in soap and tea. Bedouin residents report that some spiky plants are toxic to camels, leading them to use knitted muzzles on their animals to prevent consumption. Desert truffles also appear in the area after rainfall.
