Family's First Farm Truck Restored, Surprising 82-Year-Old Mother
A vintage farm truck belonging to Mr. Ball's family has undergone a two-year restoration process. The truck, originally used for carting fuel, hay, and grain on the farm, had been stored in a shed for approximately 20 years.
The restoration was a heartfelt surprise for Mr. Ball's mother's 82nd birthday, celebrating the family's first farm truck.
A Sentimental Journey
Mr. Ball initiated the restoration with the intention of surprising his mother for her 80th birthday. While the project took longer than anticipated, completing for her 82nd birthday, it was kept secret and resulted in a significant surprise. The truck holds sentimental value for the family, being their first farm truck and a source of memories, particularly for Mr. Ball's father, who passed away 30 years prior.
Overcoming Restoration Challenges
The restoration involved converting the truck from a six-volt to a 12-volt system and required custom-making many parts, including pins and ball joints, due to the unavailability of original components. Mr. Ball noted that almost all parts have been refurbished, excluding the differential and gearbox. He stated the restored vehicle is likely more roadworthy now than it ever was.
The truck participated in the Old Skool Hotrod and Custom Club rod run in Horsham last year, and Mr. Ball plans to display it at future truck shows.
