Allen's Daring Outside Pass on Feeney Amidst Rain and Slicks

During a recent Supercars race, 20-year-old driver Allen executed a remarkable maneuver. He performed an outside pass on Broc Feeney at Turn 1, seizing the lead immediately after a Safety Car restart. This dramatic moment occurred as rain was falling, with all front-runners, including Allen and Feeney, utilizing slick tires.

Allen on the Tactical Move

Allen later explained that his confidence to attempt such a risky pass stemmed from prior experience.

"Previous experience with similar conditions at the end of the prior year's Sunday Sydney race provided the confidence to attempt the move."

He described a strong restart that allowed him to put significant pressure on Feeney. Anticipating Feeney would likely block the inside line, Allen strategically utilized the outside. He knew the race line at Turn 1 would be slippery due to the drizzle and past events, commenting on his judgment of the gap and finding crucial grip on the outside.

Race Developments and Technical Issues

The lead proved fleeting for Allen. He subsequently lost the lead back to Feeney after running wide at Turn 8 on the very same lap.

Later in the race, while positioned second to Feeney and eight laps from the finish, the #26 Penrite Mustang, driven by Allen, experienced a critical steering failure.

The team attributed this failure to side-to-side contact between the two drivers on the first lap of the race.

Feeney's Assessment

Race winner Broc Feeney offered high praise for his competitor's early move.

Feeney praised Allen's "ballsy move" and the competitive nature of the racing within the category.
