Ash Barty Set for NZ Open Pro-Am Appearance
Former tennis world number one Ash Barty is scheduled to participate in the NZ Open pro-am, partnering with DP World Tour player Anthony Quayle.
The pro-am component of the $1.69 million tournament, held at Millbrook Resort, includes other high-profile individuals from the sporting world. Among the star-studded lineup are eleven-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, former Australian Test cricket captain Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and ex-All Blacks Jeff Wilson and Israel Dagg.
Barty, who retired from tennis, maintains an impressive golf handicap of four. Despite her skill, she stated that her golf play has been minimal since her retirement, remarking, "I've played two rounds of golf in two years so the form is pretty scarce."
"The good thing is I'm fresh and there are no demons."
Anthony Quayle confirmed that Barty contacted him to be her playing partner. Quayle commented on Barty's golf skills, specifically noting her putting ability.
