NFL Competition Committee: No 'Tush Push' Ban Expected This Offseason
Rich McKay, co-chairman of the NFL competition committee, announced on Sunday, prior to the NFL Combine, that the committee does not anticipate any team bringing forward a proposal to ban the "tush push" play this offseason.
"There’s no team proposal that I’ve seen from it," McKay stated, according to ESPN. He added that he would not envision one, though he acknowledged the possibility.
Background on Previous Attempts
Last offseason, a proposal to ban the play did not receive enough support to alter the rule book. Following that attempt, there was an expectation that the topic might be revisited in the future.
Perceived Reasons for Non-Revisitation
The absence of a renewed effort to ban the play this offseason is attributed by some to the Philadelphia Eagles' reduced effectiveness in executing the play. Previously, the Eagles had utilized the "tush push" at a remarkably high success rate.
