The 2026 Winter Olympics are concluding, with attention now turning to future Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) altered the Olympic schedule in 1994, separating the Summer and Winter Games so they alternate every two years, maintaining a four-year gap for each type of game individually. For example, the 1994 Winter Olympics were followed by the 1996 Summer Olympics.

2028 Summer Olympics

The next Summer Olympic Games will take place in 2028 in Los Angeles, California. This marks the first time the Summer Olympics return to the United States since the 1996 Atlanta Games. It is the third time Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984.

While Los Angeles is the primary host, some events will occur in other U.S. locations. Preliminary soccer matches are scheduled for cities including New York City, Columbus (Ohio), and St. Louis (Missouri). Oklahoma will host both the softball tournament and the canoe slalom events.

2030 Winter Olympics

The next Winter Olympic Games will be held in 2030 in the French Alps. The regions of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes will host most events. Ice competitions are planned for Nice.

France has previously hosted the Winter Games three times: Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968, and Albertville in 1992.
