Brandi Carlile's "Human Tour": Activism, New Music, and a Livestream Benefit
Brandi Carlile's concert on Friday in Rosemont, Illinois, featured discussions of activism and served as a preview for a Twin Cities show designated as a livestream benefit. The Saturday show in the Twin Cities was announced as an audio and visual livestream benefiting The Advocates for Human Rights.
A Call for Humanity: Activism and Aid
Carlile stated that her Looking Out Foundation had raised $25,000 for legal aid. This aid is intended for individuals affected by the Trump administration’s immigration campaign in Minnesota, where Alex Pretti and Renee Good were fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Attendees were encouraged to donate and write #Bramily postcards for distribution at the next tour stop.
Carlile commented on the plight of displaced people, characterizing it as a test of humanity.
The "Human Tour": Arena Debut
This concert is part of Carlile's "Human Tour," which commenced after her Super Bowl performance of "America the Beautiful." This tour marks her first arena tour. Carlile was accompanied by seven musicians, including Phil and Tim Hanseroth and the SistaStrings duo, who also performed at the Super Bowl.
An Icon's Journey: Career Highlights
Carlile's career includes 11 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards, and one Oscar nomination. She has collaborated with Elton John, contributed to Joni Mitchell's return to performing, established her own festival ("Girls Just Wanna Weekend"), and works as a producer. Recognized as an LGBTQ icon, she has worked with artists across genres, including Soundgarden.
On Stage: New Album Tracks and Memorable Covers
The concert's opening featured the title track from her latest album, "Returning to Myself," followed by "Human." The album, released in October, explores themes of midlife, including the passage of time and relationship dynamics. Carlile performed several songs from this album, with her family present at the arena.
She also performed tracks from her upcoming 2025 collaborative album with Elton John, "Who Believes in Angels?", and covers such as Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time.” The encore included a group performance with openers The Head and the Heart of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.”
