Fatal Shooting Incident at Mar-a-Lago Involves Secret Service, Sheriff's Deputy
U.S. Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office were involved in a fatal shooting incident at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump's private club in Palm Beach, Florida, early Sunday morning. President Trump was not present at the location during the incident, as he was in Washington.
Intruder Gains Access to Private Club
Law enforcement officials reported that an armed man, described as being in his early 20s, gained access to the 'inner perimeter' of the property.
The individual was reportedly carrying a shotgun and a gas can when he gained access to the 'inner perimeter' of the property.
Confrontation Leads to Fatal Shooting
Authorities confronted the man and ordered him to drop the items. The man placed the gas can on the ground but then raised the shotgun to a firing position. In response, two Secret Service agents and one sheriff's deputy discharged their firearms, striking and killing the man at the scene.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
No agents or officers sustained injuries during the confrontation, and no individuals protected by the Secret Service were at Mar-a-Lago when the shooting occurred. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt issued a statement commending the swift actions of the Secret Service.
The identity of the deceased man has not been publicly released. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.
