Off-Duty Police Sergeant Charged Twice with Drink Driving in Single Day

An off-duty police sergeant, aged 53, from a Northern Region Command in New South Wales, has been charged with two separate drink driving offenses on the same day. The incidents occurred in and around the Coffs Harbour region.

The sergeant faces multiple charges, including mid-range PCA, high-range PCA, and driving whilst his license was suspended.

Morning Incident in Coffs Harbour

The first incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM on the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour. The sergeant allegedly provided a positive breath test during this encounter.

Subsequently, at Woolgoolga Police Station, he registered a breath analysis reading of 0.131. He was then charged with driving with mid-range PCA, and his driving license was immediately suspended. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice.

Second Arrest Follows Public Reports

Later that day, at approximately 9:15 PM, police responded to reports on Red Rock Road, Red Rock, near Coffs Harbour. Members of the public had detained a driver seen operating a vehicle dangerously.

This driver was allegedly the same individual from the earlier incident. He allegedly tested positive for alcohol again. At Coffs Harbour Police Station, he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.191. He was then charged with high-range PCA and driving a motor vehicle whilst his license was suspended.

Legal Proceedings

The sergeant was granted conditional bail following the second set of charges. He is scheduled to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
