Adam Wingard Departs Face/Off Sequel Project

Adam Wingard has departed from the director and writer roles for the planned Face/Off sequel.

The departure was a mutual agreement with Paramount Pictures, reached last summer. The studio is now actively seeking a new director for the project.

Project Background

A remake of Face/Off was first announced in 2019, with Neal Moritz producing and Oren Uziel writing the script. In 2021, Wingard was brought on to direct a sequel, where he co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Barrett.

Wingard had previously expressed positive sentiment about the script he developed, describing it as a "true sequel."

Original Film Overview

The 1997 film Face/Off, directed by John Woo, featured an FBI agent and a terrorist swapping identities through a specialized procedure. It famously starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

The movie generated over $240 million globally and received an Oscar nomination for sound effects editing, solidifying its place as a genre classic.

Adam Wingard's Other Projects

Wingard's upcoming work includes the A24 thriller Onslaught. His previous directorial credits include The Guest, Blair Witch (2016), Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
