Brisbane Council Initiates Sale of Eight Properties Over Unpaid Rates
The Brisbane City Council has initiated the sale of eight properties due to outstanding rates. The total debt owed across these properties amounts to almost a quarter-of-a-million dollars.
Specific Cases Highlight Long-Standing Issues
One property located in The Gap, described as having overgrown lawns and drawn blinds, is among those slated for sale. Some of the debts associated with these properties date back up to a decade, including a deceased estate in Red Hill that owes over $64,000.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner stated to the council chamber on Tuesday that the action was taken because property owners have consistently failed to pay their rates, deeming it unfair to other ratepayers who fulfill their obligations.
