Ubisoft Confirms Two New Far Cry Games Amidst Restructuring

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that two Far Cry games are currently in development. This announcement was made during an interview detailing the company's restructuring into five distinct "creative houses".

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed two new Far Cry games are underway, part of a broader company restructuring effort.

Far Cry Projects Unveiled

Project Blackbird: The Next Mainline Entry

One project, codenamed Project Blackbird, is anticipated to be the next mainline Far Cry entry. Reports indicate it will feature a non-linear story, centered on a protagonist's family kidnapping. The game is designed to be completed within 72 in-game hours, which equates to approximately 24 real-time hours.

Project Maverick: Standalone Multiplayer Experience

The second project, codenamed Project Maverick, is a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game. It is described as an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness. This title is expected to include core mechanics such as permadeath, a comprehensive backpack system, and various contract-based missions.

Other Major Ubisoft Developments

Ubisoft also has several Assassin's Creed titles currently in development, spanning both single-player and multiplayer experiences. However, two Assassin's Creed titles were reportedly canceled during the company's recent restructuring. Among these was Assassin's Creed Singularity, a virtual trading card game that was planned to integrate Web3 and blockchain technology.

Separately, a Far Cry anthology series is currently in production. Rob McElhenney and Noah Hawley are attached to the series, with McElhenney also slated to star.

Studio and Project Updates

In related news, 40 developers were laid off from the studio actively working on the Splinter Cell remake. Despite these layoffs, the game's production status officially remains active.
