'Brahmani Ladies': A Glimpse into 19th-Century Bombay Education

William Johnson, a founding member of the Photographic Society of Bombay, published the image 'Brahmani Ladies' in the 1857 issue of The Indian Amateur's Photographic Album. The accompanying text identified the two women as young and intelligent individuals residing in Bombay.

They were reportedly studying English at a mission school, with the encouragement of their father and the support of their husbands.
