DOJ's Response to "Weaponization" Claims
The Justice Department has communicated that its investigations are not politically motivated and are intended to correct alleged "weaponization" from the previous administration. Examples cited include the two federal criminal cases against Trump by former special Jack Smith, concerning classified documents retention and an alleged role in the 2021 Capitol riot. The classified documents case was dismissed by a judge, and the election interference case was dropped after Trump's election in November 2020.
A Justice Department spokesperson stated, "We are proud at this Department of Justice to celebrate 250 years of our great country and our historic work to make America safe again at President Trump’s direction."
