Armadale Duo Tackles March Charge for Cancer Research
Armadale residents Michelle Chan and Nathanael Harrison are participating in Cancer Council Australia’s 10th annual March Charge fitness fundraiser during March. Each aims to run an ambitious 1000 kilometres and raise $888 to contribute to the fight against cancer.
Inspired to Act
Mrs. Chan joined the initiative after her sister, Agnes Chan, who works in medical research in Sydney, encouraged her to participate.
Mr. Harrison decided to participate instead of sponsoring his wife, taking a more direct role in the fundraiser. He has also invited friends to form a team, expanding their collective effort.
Personal Journeys and Profound Motivations
Mr. Harrison's involvement is deeply rooted in his personal experience, having received a cancer diagnosis in 2013. During his treatment, which included surgery and chemotherapy, he received vital support and resources from the Cancer Council. He emphasizes the critical importance of early detection and encourages others to seek medical advice and advocate for themselves if they experience concerning symptoms.
"Early detection saved his life."
Mrs. Chan's motivation also stems from her understanding of the long-term value of medical research, influenced by her sister's career in the field. She underscores that ongoing investment in research is essential for future medical breakthroughs and advancements.
About The March Charge
The March Charge encourages participants across Australia to walk, run, or engage in other forms of movement throughout March. The initiative aims to reduce cancer risk, promote physical activity, and raise crucial funds for cancer research, prevention, and support services nationwide.
