Giovannini Channels Steph Curry After Milan Olympic Gold
Italian speedskater Andrea Giovannini performed Steph Curry’s ‘night, night’ celebration after winning a gold medal in the men’s team pursuit at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. The Italian team secured the victory against the American world record-holders.
A Premeditated Victory Emulation
"The last lap, we were in control. And I was just waiting for that finish line to emulate Steph."
Giovannini described the act as ‘emblematic of having cold blood.’ Days prior to the event, Giovannini informed his Olympic roommate and teammate Francesco Betti of his intention to perform the celebration. He also mentioned, ‘It happened. I was worried I would forget.’
Italian Comeback Against World Record Holders
The American team, composed of Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman, and Ethan Cepuran, previously won bronze in the event in 2022 and set a world record in November. The Americans led early in the race.
However, the Italian team gained momentum and defeated Team USA by 4 1/2 seconds, achieving Italy’s first gold medal in the event in 20 years.
Teammates and Opponents React
Italy’s Davide Ghiotto did not observe Giovannini’s celebration and stated he was unfamiliar with Steph Curry. The American team also did not see the celebration.
American team member Lehman commented on the incident, stating, "It’s better than getting two middle fingers from the Russians four years ago."
