Jaden Rashada Reaches Confidential NIL Settlement

Jaden Rashada, a former quarterback for the University of Florida, has reached a confidential settlement in his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) lawsuit. The lawsuit named former Gators coach Billy Napier, former Florida staffer Marcus Castro Walker, and University of Florida booster Heath Hathcock, along with Hathcock's former company, Velocity Automotive, as defendants.

The settlement was reached following a mediation conference held on February 10. The specific terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

The lawsuit, filed in May 2024, was notable as one of the initial high-profile legal challenges concerning NIL agreements in college athletics.

The Core of the Dispute

At the core of the legal dispute was a four-year contract valued at $13.85 million, originating from a Florida NIL collective. Velocity Automotive was identified as a party intended to contribute to the financial package for Rashada.

This agreement reportedly played a significant role in Rashada's decision to commit to Florida in November 2022, after initially committing to Miami. However, the lawsuit alleged that Florida did not fulfill its commitment, leading to Rashada's release from his National Letter of Intent.

Legal Proceedings

In April 2025, a U.S. District Court judge allowed claims of fraudulent misrepresentation and inducement, conspiracy to commit fraud, and negligent misrepresentation to advance to trial. Tortious interference claims were dismissed.

A trial had been scheduled for July 20, 2026, prior to the recent settlement.

Rashada's Collegiate Journey

Following his departure from Florida, Rashada played for Arizona State in 2023, then transferred to Georgia in 2024. He subsequently moved to Sacramento State in 2025, where he recorded 264 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception in five games. He recently transferred again to Mississippi State.

Napier's New Role

Billy Napier, who was dismissed as Florida's coach in 2025, is now preparing for his inaugural season as the head coach at James Madison.
