Multi-Vehicle Pileup on I-25 Near Stem Beach: Four Fatalities Reported

A multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 25 near Stem Beach, Colorado, has resulted in at least four fatalities and multiple injuries. The severe incident occurred Tuesday morning, closing a significant stretch of the highway.

Incident Response and Scope

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) responded to the incident between Milepost 92 and 94 shortly after 10 a.m. MT. The wreckage involved several semi-trucks, indicating a complex and severe crash scene. Multiple individuals have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Visibility Impaired by High Winds

Officials indicated that visibility was significantly reduced at the time of the crash. This impairment was due to high winds creating extensive dust and dirt clouds, a likely contributing factor to the pileup.

Ongoing Road Closures and Detours

All lanes of I-25 remain closed between Exit 91 (Stem Beach) and West Pueblo Boulevard (CO 45).

Northbound traffic is being detoured at Highway 50 through Penrose (Hwy 115). Emergency and recovery agencies are currently on scene, managing the situation. An estimated time for the highway's reopening has not been provided by officials.
