Dingaoyo Twins Thrive After Early Challenges
Janae and Jon Dingaoyo's twin boys, Akenji and Asanti, were born at just 23 weeks gestation, each weighing approximately one pound. Akenji weighed one pound, four ounces at birth, while Asanti was one pound, seven ounces. Their initial journey involved an extensive stay of about six months in the Duke Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Critical Care and Medical Successes
During their time in the NICU, both boys faced significant health hurdles. Asanti underwent a non-invasive surgical procedure at two months old to successfully close a heart condition. Furthermore, both boys were successfully treated for an eye disease. The family acknowledged and reported receiving strong support from the dedicated nursing team throughout this challenging period.
The boys are now approaching two years of age and are described as thriving.
