Chinese Humanoid Robot 'GrowHR' Enters Consumer Market with Unique Soft Design
Chinese entities are making advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics, with Chinese-made humanoid robots entering the consumer market.
One such robot, named GrowHR, was detailed in a research paper published in Science Advances in January 2026.
GrowHR's capabilities are notably advanced, including shape-shifting, water traversal, and navigation through restricted spaces. Its appearance is characterized by a soft, flexible form, a significant departure from traditional rigid designs.
GrowHR's Distinctive Physical Characteristics
The robot stands nearly 4.5 feet tall and weighs less than 10 pounds, a design that crucially facilitates flotation. To adapt to challenging environments, it can reduce its height and width to 36% and 61% of its original dimensions, respectively, enabling it to fit into small areas.
This soft and pliable design contrasts with the metallic structures of other robots, such as Tesla's Optimus. The stated goal behind GrowHR's unique physical characteristics is to make it more human-like in its physical attributes.
