Tyler Reddick Delivers Historic Daytona 500 Victory for 23XI Racing, Achieves Three-Race Winning Streak

Tyler Reddick secured victory at the Daytona 500 while driving for Michael Jordan's 23XI Racing team, marking the team's inaugural Daytona 500 championship. Reddick subsequently achieved two additional victories at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Circuit of the Americas, completing a streak of three consecutive NASCAR Cup Series wins across diverse track types.

Reddick's Daytona 500 victory was his ninth career Cup Series win and concluded a 38-race winless streak.

Daytona 500 Victory Overview

Reddick, 30, from California, improved upon his runner-up finish in the previous year's Daytona 500. His 2023 season was winless, during which he focused on his infant son's health.

Reddick led only the final lap of the race, becoming the 25th different driver to lead a lap and establishing a new Daytona 500 record for the number of drivers leading.

Key Race Incidents:

  • A caution occurred with nine laps remaining following a collision involving 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin and teammate Christopher Bell.
  • Chase Elliott gained the lead on the final lap after Carson Hocevar was spun.
  • Reddick, with assistance from teammate Riley Herbst, made contact with Elliott, resulting in a crash. Reddick then passed to secure the victory for 23XI Racing.
  • Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished second, and Joey Logano finished third. Elliott placed fourth.
  • Reddick's teammate, Bubba Wallace, finished 10th after leading a race-high 40 laps. Hamlin finished 31st.

23XI Racing Ownership and Antitrust Lawsuit Context

Michael Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and co-owner of 23XI Racing, was present in victory lane after Reddick's Daytona 500 win. Jordan, who was nearing his 63rd birthday, lifted the Harley J. Earl trophy with Reddick and indicated he would receive a Daytona 500 ring. Denny Hamlin, also a co-owner, had previously communicated to 23XI employees the team's objective to perform well. Jordan spoke with Wallace after the race.

This Daytona 500 victory was the first for Jordan and Hamlin as primary litigants in a recently settled federal antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR.

NASCAR chairman Jim France, a defendant in the suit, congratulated the winners in victory lane. The win for 23XI Racing contributed to a Daytona sweep for three team owners involved in the trial:

  • Bob Jenkins, a co-litigant with 23XI, saw Chandler Smith win the Truck Series opener.
  • Richard Childress, who testified on behalf of 23XI and Front Row, was the winning team owner when Austin Hill won.

Consecutive Victories Streak

Following the Daytona 500, Reddick secured two more NASCAR Cup Series victories, first at Atlanta Motor Speedway and then at Circuit of the Americas. The win at Circuit of the Americas marked his third consecutive victory.

Team co-owner Michael Jordan had communicated an expectation for Reddick to achieve a third straight win, referencing Jordan's past NBA "three-peats." Reddick acknowledged meeting this standard.

These three consecutive wins occurred on three distinct track styles: a superspeedway (Daytona), a superintermediate track (Atlanta), and a road course (Circuit of the Americas).

At Circuit of the Americas, Reddick outdueled Shane Van Gisbergen for the win.
