Cameron Clark Charged with Attempted Murder After Easts Leagues Club Stabbing

Cameron William Leslie Clark, 33, faces charges including attempted murder following a violent incident at Easts Leagues Club in Coorparoo, Brisbane, on Thursday, February 12. Police allege a 20-year-old female employee was stabbed, and two other individuals sustained injuries while intervening or restraining Mr. Clark. He has been remanded in custody after a recent court appearance via video link.

Police allege Cameron William Leslie Clark, a former kitchen hand, returned to the club armed with a large carving knife after being excluded hours earlier for alleged inappropriate workplace behaviors.

The Incident Unfolds

Police reports indicate that Mr. Clark was allegedly excluded from the Easts Leagues Club around 2pm on the day of the incident. This exclusion, which occurred hours before the alleged stabbing, was reportedly due to alleged inappropriate behaviors in the workplace towards an employee. An internal investigation had been underway regarding these behaviors.

One report specifically described Mr. Clark's alleged actions as "unwanted and unsolicited attention" directed at a 20-year-old waitress.

Around 5pm, approximately three hours after his initial exclusion, Mr. Clark allegedly returned to the club. He was reportedly armed with a large carving knife. He is accused of attacking the 20-year-old female employee, first in a hallway and subsequently in the main dining area of the club. The employee sustained defensive wounds to her hands and 10cm cuts to her head and wrist.

During the unfolding incident, a 61-year-old male employee, identified as a chef, allegedly intervened. The chef sustained a stab wound to his hip or abdomen while attempting to protect others. Additionally, a 41-year-old female patron was reportedly injured, suffering a hand laceration. She, along with up to seven other individuals, assisted in restraining Mr. Clark until police arrived at the scene.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Mr. Clark faces multiple charges in connection with the incident:

  • Attempted murder
  • Unlawful stalking
  • Acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Unlawful wounding
  • Going armed to cause fear

Mr. Clark sustained a hand wound during the incident himself, which required surgery. He was initially unable to appear in court due to his hospitalization. He subsequently appeared in the Brisbane Arrests Court via video link from the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre.

During his court appearance before Magistrate Peter Saggers, Mr. Clark did not apply for bail. Police have indicated their intention to oppose any future bail applications. He requested an adjournment to March 16 for a committal mention and stated his intention to apply for legal aid. Mr. Clark remains remanded in custody.
