Local Textile Artist Tom Isaacs Kicks Off Ryde Residency at Westward Cottage
Local textile artist Tom Isaacs has commenced his Open Studio sessions at Westward Cottage, following his selection as the City of Ryde's 2025/26 Artist in Residence.
Isaacs, a long-term resident of the Ryde LGA, expressed his positive outlook on his tenure at the Council's studio space, located near the Top Ryde City shopping centre. He articulated his intent to utilize the residency for his creative practice, engagement with Ryde residents, and a public program of artistic events.
Public Programs and Engagement
Members of the public can visit Westward Cottage during Open Studio sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to observe Isaacs' creative process firsthand.
Upcoming events include a video art screening titled "59 Seconds," scheduled for Thursday, February 19, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Westward Cottage.
Isaacs plans to further develop his latest body of work throughout the year, with a public exhibition intended at the conclusion of his residency. He also aims to promote the value of art and creativity within the Ryde community.
Mayor Brown Commends Artist's Distinctive Work
Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown met with Isaacs to view his ongoing projects at Westward Cottage. Mayor Brown noted Isaacs as the City of Ryde's third Artist in Residence and commented on the distinctive nature of his textile art, viewing it as a demonstration of local creative talent. Mayor Brown encouraged community members to attend the Open Studio sessions.
Isaacs stated his belief that art serves as a social activity, facilitating connections among individuals by communicating shared experiences.
