Fatal Crash Follows Police Pursuit in Sydney's South-West
Two individuals died and one man was arrested subsequent to a car crash that occurred after a police pursuit in Sydney's south-west.
Police Pursuit Initiated
NSW Police initiated a pursuit of a red sedan reported stolen from a petrol station on King Georges Road, South Hurstville, around 10:20am on Saturday. Police reported that the 25-year-old owner of the vehicle was assaulted.
The vehicle was observed again on King Georges Road in Beverly Hills. Police initiated a pursuit when the vehicle reportedly failed to comply with a directive to stop. The pursuit, supported by PolAir and several police commands, proceeded along the M5 Motorway before being terminated in the Bankstown area.
Fatal Collision in Camden South
Approximately 11am, the red sedan collided with an Alfa Romeo sedan on the Old Hume Highway in Camden South. NSW Ambulance paramedics attended to two occupants of the Alfa Romeo, who were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identities have not been released.
Driver Apprehended, Investigation Underway
Police reported that the 31-year-old driver of the red sedan fled the crash site on foot. The individual was apprehended shortly thereafter and transported to Campbelltown Police Station, where an investigation into the incident is underway.
A critical incident has been declared. The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission. Multiple crime scenes have been established in connection with the event. Further information is anticipated from police.
